Colorless gas with a slightly unpleasant odor.Soluble in water under pressure at room temperature, soluble in alcohol and chloroform.Flammable and explosive.Used as solvent, refrigerant and raw material for organic synthesis.N-butane is found in oilfield gas, wet natural gas and cracked gas.

Application:

 

N-butane is not only used as fuel directly, but also as solvent, refrigerant and raw material for organic synthesis.Butane dehydrogenates to butene or butadiene in the presence of catalyst, and isomerizes to isobutane in the presence of sulfuric acid or anhydrous hydrofluoric acid. Isobutane dehydrogenates to isobutane, and isobutane can be used as alkylation agent to react with alkenes to form branched hydrocarbons with good anti-knock performance.Butane can be oxidized to produce maleic anhydride, acetic acid and acetaldehyde.Halogenated butane can be produced by halogenation.Nitrobutane can be obtained by nitration.Carbon disulfide can be prepared by catalysis at high temperature.Hydrogen can be made from water vapor.Butane can also be used as a motor fuel additive to control volatile components.Also can do heavy oil refining deasphalting agent;Wax precipitator in oil well;Spill agent for secondary oil recovery, resin foaming agent, refrigerant for conversion of seawater into fresh water, olefin agent gla polymerization solvent, etc.[3]
